Someone who travels frequently but who wants to own a pet should choose the kind of pet that can be taken along on most trips. This makes it a lot better for the pet as well as for the pet owner. Dogs aren’t the easiest pet to choose from when selecting an animal that can travel well with you but there are definitely dogs that do make great travel companions.

Your best bet is to choose a fairly small dog since this type of pet will be allowed to travel in areas where other dogs can not. Everything from airlines to hotels will be more accommodating to a small dog than to a big one. Good dog breeds to look at include the Italian GreyHound, the Miniature Schnauzer and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

Make sure that the dog that you get has a temperament that allows it to adapt well to change. Traveling means regularly being in new environments and your dog needs to be comfortable with that if you’re going to travel well together. It may be best to start out with a young dog and to invest the energy in training the dog to adapt well to travel rather than trying to convince an older dog to jet around the world with you.
