A Writer’s Dream Vacation

As a freelance writer, I love going places or doing things that inspire creativity.

For instance, in March my husband and I went to England, where we spent four nights in Haworth — the home of the Brontes, my favorite authors.  I was really inspired to write while we were there, and started a new novel (that I have yet to return to since we got back, sadly).

Another favorite place is a hot springs resort in Idaho Springs, Colorado, just half an hour west of Denver.  Relaxing does wonders for creativity, I’ve found, and that is the perfect place to relax!

I haven’t been on many other vacations lately, unless you count driving across Kansas to see the in-laws — and since I’m not writing The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, I don’t find that very inspiring.  But I have places I hope to visit someday, places that I think will inspire me to write:

  • Canada – Beautiful scenery always inspires me to be creative, so I think I’d be really interested in Canada train vacations (with plenty of time to write and read on the train) or a relaxed holiday in Lake Louise Canada.  Luckily Canada is very close, and Canada tours are very easy to book, making it more likely I’ll be able to get there someday.
  • Greece and Rome – I can’t imagine not being inspired by all the classical sights of these places.  Coliseum, here I come!
  • South America – More specifically, I want to see the ancient ruins of the Incas and the Mayas.  I like ancient stuff, can you tell?
  • Haworth – Yes, I want to go back.  Once simply wasn’t enough!

Luckily, I do have plenty of ways around home to recharge my creativity.  Living within a short drive of the Colorado Rocky Mountains is always a benefit.  The simple pleasures also do a lot to rejuvenate my creativity — things like visiting with my horse, reading, even sitting out on the front porch with my laptop in the summer.
