A Slippery Slope

I’ve had some adventures in my day, but I’m not used to thinking of Canada ski vacations as theaters for hilarious happenings. I guess you can never really know what to expect from life, can you? It all started when my wife wanted to take a Lake Louise vacation to go fishing. Actually, there’s a funny story behind that, but the point is, her name is Louise and she loves to fish, and eventually she decided we ought to get up to Alberta, Canada, and spend some time on the water. I like fishing just fine, and I think I’m a pretty amicable guy, but we didn’t get the time off work until the summer season was waning fast, so we decided to head up to Banff, instead, and do a little skiing. We brought our dog, Rufus, along for the ride, and on the snow-slippery mountainside he lost his footing and began to slide. I still only had one ski on, and as I leaned over to grab him a small black bird with a red patch on its back swooped down and put its talons into my hair. I thrashed and slipped and crashed into Rufus and the two of us tumbled down together. Louise was laughing too hard to avoid us when we crashed down into her. Giddy from the elevation? Perhaps. Either way, we were glad we took our Banff Canada vacation.
