Adapting Your Style to Your Climate

I’m originally from the desert. I grew up wearing tank tops, shorts and flip flops all throughout the year. The only thing I ever really put on to cover up was sunscreen.

These days, I’m living in a cooler climate. It’s almost always sixty and windy where I live. One of the first things that had to change when I moved here was the clothing that I wore.

I didn’t particularly like adapting my style to my new environment. I really identified with the way that I dressed before. I felt like I was losing my self when I had to suddenly cover up with layer upon layer of clothing.

However, the challenge ended up being a good one. It forced me to ask myself what kind of style I wanted to have. I grew into myself because of this.

It’s not always easy to move to a new climate. If you move from a warm place (Hawaii, Arizona) to a cold place (Alaska, Banff) then you have to make a lot of adjustments. Those adjustments could be what really help you to define yourself though. In the end, the change is a good thing. At least it was for me!
