What a Wonderful Decorating Job!

My son’s graduation from Douglas County High School is coming up, and I know they do such a beautiful job at decorating the football field.  Of course, the scenery is spectacular anyway:  the grandstands face straight out to the Rocky Mountains.  But they do more than that-a lot more than my high school did for graduation!

First of all, they have these long vertical purple flags billowing in the breeze.  The stage is flanked by lots and lots of flowers, as well as artificial Christmas trees.  They don’t bother with Christmas tree lights or anything, but it all just adds to the “purple mountains majesty” theme.

And then there’s After Prom!  This is a safe-haven party held at the school and put on by parents.  It is singularly the biggest production put on at the school all year!  There are rope lights everywhere, huge pieces of scenery that fit whatever the theme is, a live band, casino tables, all kinds of other contests and games, and of course, tons of food!  And the raffle is unbelievable.  It’s all so cheap, too.  Even the Prom tickets are only $30.  Weren’t they a lot more for us back in the eighties?  And yes-Prom is off-campus.  Still, they could easily charge just that much for After Prom, but for seniors, it’s FREE!
