Winterizing Your Home

Every year when winter sets in, I remember all the winterizing projects that I didn’t get done yet. Winterizing your home is important, because it saves energy (and money!) if your home is decked out to properly handle the cold, wet weather.
Some winterizing tasks are quick and easy to do, such as replacing your furnace filter or bringing the hose inside. Other tasks are a little bit more involved, but nothing a do-it-yourselfer can’t handle — such as gleaning the gutters or visually inspecting the roof for problems. Still others are best handled by professionals — for instance, window installation of more energy-efficient replacement windows.
The goal of winterizing is not only to protect your home from the damaging elements, but also to protect your bank account from inefficient energy use. For instance, Andersen replacement windows prevent heat loss, which means less energy used — and less money spent on utilities. Older, lesser-quality windows typically lose heat via heat transfer via aluminum window frames and lesser quality glass panes. Big windows especially, such as pictures windows and bay windows, can cost you a lot in heat loss if they aren’t replaced with more efficient windows.
Your home is an investment, and it’s important to winterize properly in order to protect that investment — and to protect your bank account from avoidable emergencies and unnecessary energy expenses!
