Where are All the Women Over Forty?

Is it just me, or wasn’t there this big push in the industry (from what I hear) to start featuring more women over forty? Advertisers have figured out that this demographic has the money to spend, so why not cater to them? Being one of those that fall in this demographic, I heartily agree! I want to see strong, fit, intelligent women my age on the big screen and in my fashion magazines.
And I did for awhile. Demi Moore and Meryl Streep and Meg Ryan were splashed all over the place for a bit, but now they’ve all disappeared it seems. Now you see AnnaLynn McCord on the beach or Kourtney Kardashian in a bikini. Not exactly what my demographic is hankering to see. I did see a couple photos that women “my age” just LOVE: a Lindsay Lohan bikini picture (can you say “eat something”?) and a not very flattering Kim Kardashian spandex picture. Priceless!
Here’s the deal: we “mature” women know how to dress and how to hide our flaws. These poor young things still figure that if they got it, they should flaunt it. Women my age say if you got it, and it isn’t what it used to be, hide it!

Love it! Well said. I think there’s a fine line between showcasing that you’re fresh and “with it” and wearing it on your body when it just … doesn’t … fit! LifeScript did a fun article on this called Top 10 Items You’re Too Old to Wear. It had an interview with Charla Krupp and some great tips and suggestions. Thanks for a fun post!
