When you first install a flow meter, you will initially go through a time of confusion.  This is because it will be like having a spaceship land on your water pipe and you will not know what to do with it.  Is it showing a good reading or a bad reading, is the information displayed positive or negative.  This will aid you in your decision in buying a meter as well as what type to buy based on the information that you want your unit mass flow controller to provide.  Remember when reading your flow meter; depending on the style and type make sure to interpret the information accurately and not to misunderstand the readings on the meter.  It is in most cases telling the pressure that is flowing through the line it is attached to and will in some cases depending on the meter adjust the flow accordingly.  This is of course if you are using an ultrasonic open channel flow meter. 

Remember to get a meter that you can read and understand clearly.  This will allow you to determine how well the pipe is flowing and whether or not anything needs altered or replaced in your water system.
